Stainless work done right

Stainless steel is chosen because it resists corrosion and cleans up well, and a careless weld can undo both. Too much heat warps thin sheet and leaves heavy discolouration. Contamination from carbon steel tools can leave rust spots on a brand-new part. Berto's TIG welds stainless with controlled heat, clean preparation and tools kept for stainless, so the finished part performs the way stainless should.

Food service and food processing

Restaurants, food carts and food processors depend on stainless that stays sanitary. Typical work includes repairs to equipment frames and panels, brackets and supports, shelving, cooking station surrounds and modifications to existing equipment. We aim for smooth, continuous welds that don't leave places for food and moisture to collect.

Industrial and architectural stainless

  • Brackets, flanges and fittings on industrial equipment
  • Tube and pipe assemblies for process and custom applications
  • Railings, trim and architectural details where appearance matters
  • Covers, guards and enclosures
  • Repairs to cracked or broken stainless parts

Sanitary and process work often needs the inside of the joint protected as well as the outside. Tell us how the part is used and we'll talk through what the job requires.

Matching the stainless to the job

Not all stainless is the same. Type 304 is the everyday grade for kitchens, food equipment and indoor work. Type 316 holds up better against salt and harsh cleaning chemicals, which is why it's common on the waterfront and in some processing plants. When we're repairing or adding to an existing part, we match the filler to the base metal so the repair doesn't become the weak or rusty spot. If you're not sure what grade you have, bring it in or send photos and we'll help work it out.

Shop or on site

Parts that can come off are usually best welded in the shop, where they can be positioned for clean, consistent welds. Equipment that's fixed in place can be repaired on site with the mobile rig. New stainless parts are built under custom fabrication.

Stainless TIG FAQ

Do you weld food-service stainless?

Yes. We TIG weld stainless for commercial kitchens, food carts and food processing equipment, with attention to clean, smooth welds and keeping the stainless free of contamination.

Can stainless be repaired on site?

Often, yes. Equipment that can't easily be moved can be repaired on site with the mobile rig. Smaller parts are usually best done in the shop.

What causes the colours around a stainless weld?

That's heat tint, an oxide that forms when stainless gets hot. Controlling heat input keeps it to a minimum, and it can be cleaned up when the finish or the application requires it.

How is stainless TIG welding priced?

It's billed by the hour, with online bookings in 1-hour blocks. Call 778-918-5581 to talk through your job first.
